Most pilgrims from Surat searching for this sacred Himalayan
pilgrimage in 2026 want three things: a trustworthy operator, a fair
price, and honest answers about what the journey involves — including
how to get there from Gujarat. If that's you, you're in the right
place.
Adi Kailash Om Parvat Yatra Package 2026 covers one of India's most
spiritually significant high-altitude circuits — entirely within India,
no passport required. Adi
Kailash (also called Chota Kailash or Shiva Kailash) is a
5,945-metre peak in Pithoragarh district, Uttarakhand, near the
Indo-Tibetan border. For travellers starting from Surat, the journey
begins with a direct flight to Delhi (roughly 1 hour 45 minutes to 1
hour 55 minutes), followed by our managed itinerary onward — ILP
coordination, accommodation, transport, meals, and on-ground support
included.
Pilgrimage Tour has been organising this sacred Himalayan journey
since 2010. We are a Government of India approved tour operator, rated
highly on Google and Trustpilot by verified pilgrims — including many
from Gujarat.

What Is Adi Kailash and Why Is It Called Chota Kailash?
Adi Kailash is the Indian counterpart of Mount Kailash in Tibet.
Local traditions and regional beliefs associate Adi Kailash with Lord
Shiva and regard it as a sacred manifestation of Kailash. 'Adi' means
original or first — giving this Himalayan pilgrimage site its name and
its spiritual weight. [Read: History
of Adi Kailash]
The practical difference matters: Kailash Mansarovar requires a China
visa and international travel. Adi Kailash is entirely within India,
needs only an Inner Line Permit, and the route is mostly motorable. Many
devotees consider it a spiritually significant alternative to Kailash
Mansarovar — and the only Panch Kailash peak that combines Adi Kailash
Darshan and Om
Parvat Darshan in a single sacred expedition.
The Panch Kailash Pilgrimage Circuit
- Adi Kailash (Chota Kailash) — Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand — only one
fully inside India, no foreign travel
- Mount Kailash — Tibet (China visa required)
- Manimahesh Kailash — Chamba, Himachal Pradesh
- Shrikhand Mahadev — Kullu, Himachal Pradesh
- Kinnaur Kailash — Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh
Of all five, only Adi Kailash gives you Om Parvat Darshan on the same
trip — no extra cost, no separate journey.
Om Parvat — The Mountain That Bears the Sacred Symbol
At 6,191 metres, Om Parvat stands in the same restricted border zone.
On its north face, snow and rock have formed a natural pattern that
closely resembles the sacred Sanskrit symbol 'ॐ' (Om) — a geological
formation visible from the Nabidhang viewpoint at 4,600 m.
September offers the clearest sightlines. After monsoon, the sky
opens and the Om formation stands out sharply against the dark rock
face. Cloud cover can obscure the view on any given day — no operator
can guarantee a sighting.
What most people don't realise: Om Parvat can be cloud-covered
even in peak season. September has the highest clear-day probability,
but plan for the possibility that visibility may be limited.
Sacred Sites on the Adi Kailash Yatra Route
Jolingkong (4,745 m) — Adi Kailash Base Camp
The spiritual heart of the journey. The Shiv Mandir at Jolingkong
sits directly facing the Adi Kailash peak at 5,945 m. Pilgrims perform
puja at dawn, when the peak is lit in the first light of day. This is
the main Darshan point.
Gauri Kund — Sacred Glacial Lake
A glacial lake at approximately 4,700 m, associated with Goddess
Parvati. Pilgrims take a ritual dip in its icy waters before Darshan —
considered a purifying act before approaching the sacred peak.
Parvati Sarovar
Another sacred lake near Jolingkong. Both Gauri
Kund and Parvati
Sarovar are typically visited on the same day as Adi Kailash
Darshan.
Nabidhang (4,600 m) — Om Parvat Viewpoint
The traditional Om Parvat viewpoint, reached by road from Gunji. On
clear days, the Om formation on the mountain face is visible to the
naked eye from this open plateau.
Nabi and Kuti — Bhotiya Villages
Traditional high-altitude Bhotiya communities on the route, among the
last permanent settlements in this border zone. Most locals speak
Kumaoni and Hindi.

How to Reach Adi Kailash from Surat
By Air — Surat to Delhi
Surat International Airport (STV) connects directly to Delhi's Indira
Gandhi International Airport (DEL) in roughly 1 hour 45 minutes to 1
hour 55 minutes, with multiple daily nonstop departures across IndiGo,
Air India, Air India Express, and Akasa Air. This is the recommended
first leg for every package on this page.
Onward from Delhi — By Rail (Recommended)
Kathgodam Railway Station is the most convenient onward stop for most
pilgrims. Three daily trains connect Delhi to Kathgodam:
- Kathgodam Shatabdi Express (12040) — New Delhi 6:20 AM, arrives
11:55 AM. Fastest at 5h35m. Book 60+ days in advance on IRCTC.
- Ranikhet Express (15013) — Delhi Cantt 8:21 PM, arrives Kathgodam
5:05 AM (overnight).
- Uttaranchal Sampark Kranti Express (15035) — Delhi 4:00 PM,
arrives Kathgodam 10:45 PM.
From Kathgodam: drive to Pithoragarh (~210 km, ~5 hrs) then Dharchula
(~93 km, ~3 hrs). Our 9-day-from-Surat package (via Kathgodam) includes
all road transport from station pickup onward.
Onward from Delhi — By Road (Alternative)
~580 km via Moradabad → Rampur → Tanakpur → Pithoragarh → Dharchula.
Drive time: 12–14 hours. Our Delhi-route package includes overnight road
departure from Delhi.
Nearest Airport to the Route
Naini Saini Airport (Pithoragarh), ~100 km from Dharchula, has
limited connectivity via Delhi. Pantnagar Airport is better connected
(~330 km from Dharchula). The Surat–Delhi flight followed by the
Delhi–Kathgodam train remains the most reliable combination for pilgrims
travelling from Gujarat. Read

Road vs Helicopter: Which Package Is Right for You?
| Factor | Road Package | Helicopter Package |
|---|
| Duration (ex-Surat) | 9–10 days | 4–6 days |
| Price | ₹42,900 – ₹48,900 + Surat–Delhi flight | Starting from ₹42,900 + Surat–Delhi flight |
| Physical demand | Moderate (2–7 km trek) | Low (minimal walking) |
| Acclimatisation | Natural, gradual ascent | Rapid ascent — higher AMS risk; doctor's approval essential |
| Experience | Full route, villages, valley landscape | Peak Darshan focused |
| Best for | Age below 60, moderate fitness | Seniors 65+, health conditions; subject to doctor's clearance |
| ILP required | Yes | Yes (even for helicopter) |
| Weather dependency | Moderate | High — flights cancel in cloud/rain |
From practical experience: pilgrims who take the road route almost
universally say the journey itself — the Kali Ganga valley, the Bhotiya
villages, the gradual ascent [See Adi
Kailash Yatra route map] — is half the pilgrimage. The
helicopter gets you to the Darshan; the road takes you through the
entire spiritual landscape.
One important clarification on helicopters: rapid altitude gain
actually increases altitude stress. The helicopter option is preferred
for seniors or those with health conditions, but always subject to a
doctor's approval — especially for cardiac patients.
Adi Kailash Yatra Route Map and Altitude Chart
| Place | Altitude | Distance from Dharchula | Key Detail |
|---|
| Dharchula | 915 m | Base | ILP collection; last ATM, last fuel station, full supplies |
| Tawaghat | 1,066 m | 23 km | Entry to restricted zone; first checkpost |
| Budhi | 1,600 m | 55 km | River crossing; road narrows significantly |
| Gunji | 3,120 m | 96 km | Base camp; mandatory rest day before ascending higher |
| Nabi | 3,500 m | 105 km | Traditional Bhotiya village; last tea stalls on route |
| Nabidhang | 4,600 m | 117 km | Om Parvat viewpoint; drive from Gunji |
| Jolingkong | 4,745 m | 123 km | Adi Kailash base camp; Shiv Mandir; Gauri Kund nearby |
| Adi Kailash Peak | 5,945 m | — | Darshan from base — no climbing required |
Do not try to drive from Dharchula to Jolingkong in a single day.
The rest day at Gunji (3,120 m) before ascending to 4,745 m is a safety
requirement, not optional. Most altitude sickness cases we see happen in
groups that skipped Gunji acclimatisation.
Network, ATM, Fuel and Toilets on the Adi Kailash Route
Mobile Network
BSNL and Airtel have patchy coverage up to Gunji. Jio has no reliable
signal beyond Dharchula. Beyond Gunji, there is no mobile network at
all. Inform your family before departure that you will be unreachable
for 2–3 days. Our guides carry satellite communication devices for
emergencies.
Last ATM and Cash
The last ATM is in Pithoragarh or Dharchula. Beyond Dharchula, there
are no ATMs, no UPI payments, no digital transactions of any kind. Carry
sufficient cash in small denominations for the entire route. Budget
₹2,000–3,000 in cash for tips, local purchases, and emergency needs
beyond the package.
Last Fuel Station
The last petrol pump is in Dharchula. Vehicles travelling the
Dharchula-Gunji-Jolingkong stretch are typically fuelled up before
departure.
Toilet Facilities
Toilet facilities are available at KMVN rest houses and guesthouses
at major stops (Gunji, Nabi). Beyond Nabi, facilities are basic or
absent. Portable travel toilets are available at camping supply stores.
Women travellers in particular should plan with a portable option. This
is a genuine on-ground reality on this route.
Inner Line Permit (ILP) for Adi Kailash 2026
The route beyond Dharchula is a restricted border zone. An Inner Line
Permit is mandatory for all Indian nationals, including those flying in
from Surat — you will be turned back at the first checkpost without
one.
How to Get the ILP
- Visit SDM Office, Dharchula, or register through KMVN
(kmvn.gov.in) or a registered operator like us.
- Submit: Aadhaar/Voter ID (original + 4 copies), 2–4 passport
photos, filled ILP application form, Medical Fitness Certificate from an
MBBS doctor.
- Processing takes 1–3 working days. Government fee is paid
separately at the SDM office.
- ILP is issued for your specific travel dates — do not change
dates without reapplying.
ILP government fee is not included in our packages. Budget
₹300–600 extra for this. KMVN Helpline: 05942-236936.
[See complete planning guide: How
to plan your Adi Kailash Yatra]
For Foreign Nationals and OCI Card Holders
A Protected Area Permit (PAP) from the Ministry of Home Affairs, New
Delhi is required. Apply 2–3 months before travel. Contact us early if
you hold an OCI card or foreign passport.
Age limit: KMVN and most operators cap age at 70 given the
altitude. Pilgrims above 60 must submit a detailed medical certificate
specifically mentioning high-altitude tolerance.
Best Time for Adi Kailash Om Parvat Yatra 2026
| Month | Weather | Om Parvat Visibility | Crowd Level | Verdict |
|---|
| May | Cool, clear, fresh meadows | Good | Moderate | ✅ Excellent — early season |
| June | Warm days, cool nights | Good | High | ✅ Excellent — peak booking month |
| July | Heavy monsoon, landslides | Poor | Very Low | ❌ Avoid — road cuts frequent |
| August | Heavy rain, unstable roads | Poor | Very Low | ❌ Avoid — high risk |
| September | Clear post-monsoon skies | Best of season | Moderate | ✅ Best month — clearest views |
| Oct onwards | Early snowfall, route closes | Varies | Low | ⚠️ Season may close late Sept |
September is the best month for this Himalayan pilgrimage. [See
detailed seasonal guide: Best
time to visit Adi Kailash] Post-monsoon skies are clearest, Om
Parvat's formation is most visible, and trails are dry. May–June is
second best — fresh season, rhododendrons in bloom below 3,000 m. Book
September departures by July, and confirm your Surat–Delhi flight for
that window early too — fares rise and seats fill fast in peak
season.
Altitude Sickness on Adi Kailash Yatra — What You Must Know
At 4,745 m (Jolingkong), Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) is a real
risk. Symptoms — headache, nausea, breathlessness, fatigue — can appear
above 3,000 m. This is not a reason to avoid the yatra. It requires
preparation.
Prevention Protocol
- Ascend gradually. Do not go Dharchula to Jolingkong in one
day.
- Mandatory rest day at Gunji (3,120 m) before going
higher.
- Minimum 3–4 litres of water per day above 3,000 m.
- Carry Diamox (acetazolamide) — consult your doctor for dosage.
Typically 125–250 mg twice daily from one day before ascending.
- No alcohol above 3,000 m — it accelerates dehydration and masks
AMS symptoms.
- At Jolingkong, rest 1–2 hours on arrival before Darshan.
Medical Facilities on Route
Basic support at Gunji only. Beyond Gunji, the nearest medical
facility is back in Dharchula. Carry your own medicines, ORS sachets,
and first-aid kit. A pulse oximeter is strongly recommended for anyone
above 60.
Cardiac patients, those with BP or diabetes: get a stress test
and doctor's clearance specifically mentioning altitude up to 5,000 m.
This is a genuine safety requirement, not a formality.
Adi Kailash Yatra for Senior Citizens
Yes, it is possible — with the right approach. We have taken pilgrims
aged 68, 71, and 75 to Adi Kailash on this Himalayan pilgrimage,
including several travelling from Surat and other Gujarat cities. The
deciding factor is health condition, not age alone.
Road or Helicopter for Seniors?
| Factor | Road Package | Helicopter Package |
|---|
| Age recommendation | Below 65, physically fit | 65+ or health conditions |
| Physical exertion | Moderate (2–7 km walking) | Minimal |
| AMS risk | Lower (gradual ascent) | Higher (rapid ascent — doctor's clearance essential) |
| Duration (ex-Surat) | 9–10 days | 4–6 days |
| Doctor clearance | Recommended | Mandatory |
Families travelling with elderly parents from Surat: the helicopter
for seniors, road for younger members. Both groups converge at the same
Darshan point.
What most operators don't mention: rapid helicopter ascent
actually increases altitude stress compared to the gradual road route.
Seniors choosing helicopter must rest at Pithoragarh before and
after.
Adi Kailash Yatra from Surat — Day-Wise Itinerary (via Kathgodam)
| Day | Route | Altitude Gain | Key Activity |
|---|
| Day 1 | Surat → Delhi (direct flight) | — | Board evening train or road transfer toward Kathgodam |
| Day 2 | Arrive Kathgodam → Kainchi Dham → Pithoragarh | 915 m | Kainchi Dham Darshan; check into hotel |
| Day 3 | Pithoragarh → Dharchula | 915 m | ILP collection at SDM office; overnight |
| Day 4 | Dharchula → Gunji | 3,120 m | Drive via Tawaghat, Budhi; acclimatisation begins |
| Day 5 | Gunji (Rest Day) | 3,120 m | Mandatory acclimatisation — no ascent today |
| Day 6 | Gunji → Nabidhang → Jolingkong | 4,745 m | Om Parvat Darshan at Nabidhang; Jolingkong base camp |
| Day 7 | Jolingkong → Adi Kailash Darshan | 4,745 m | Gauri Kund, Parvati Sarovar, Shiv Mandir puja |
| Day 8 | Jolingkong → Dharchula | 915 m | Return descent |
| Day 9 | Dharchula → Kathgodam | ~300 m | Return drive; drop at Kathgodam station |
| Day 10 | Kathgodam → Delhi (train) → Surat (flight) | — | Board return flight home |
Day 5 rest at Gunji is non-negotiable in every itinerary. Groups that
skip it face a significantly higher rate of AMS at Jolingkong.

Adi Kailash Yatra from Surat 2026 — Complete Cost Breakdown

| Surat–Delhi return flight | ₹6,000–₹12,000 | Varies by season and booking window; confirm current fares |

| Total estimated (per person) | ₹54,500–₹63,000 | 10-day Surat-to-Surat trip, all-in |
Hidden costs most operators don't tell you: the ILP government
fee and your Surat–Delhi flight are always separate. Budget for both.
Total trip cost from Surat runs meaningfully higher than the
ex-Kathgodam package price shown.
Package Inclusions and Exclusions

- Personal expenses — tips, shopping, laundry, medicines
- Travel or medical insurance (strongly recommended)
- Helicopter charges if opted for any section
- Costs due to natural calamity, road blockage, or force
majeure
Cancellation and Refund Policy
| Cancellation Notice | Deduction |
|---|
| 30+ days before departure | 10% of tour cost |
| 15–29 days before departure | 25% of tour cost |
| 7–14 days before departure | 50% of tour cost |
| Within 7 days or no-show | No refund |
| Natural calamity / route closure / govt. order | Alternative arrangements; refund subject to actuals recovered |
Travel insurance is strongly recommended. The Dharchula-Gunji road is
blocked by landslides several times each season. Costs for additional
nights and transport caused by route blockages beyond your planned
itinerary are not covered by the package — and neither are Surat–Delhi
flight change fees.
Common Mistakes to Avoid on Adi Kailash Yatra
- Booking July or August departures. Monsoon landslides block the
Dharchula-Gunji road repeatedly. Many groups get stuck for 1–3 days.
Stick to May–June or September.
- Skipping the Gunji rest day. Rushing to Jolingkong in one day
causes AMS in the majority of pilgrims. That rest day is
non-negotiable.
- Booking your Surat–Delhi flight and Delhi–Kathgodam train too
close together. Leave at least a few hours' buffer at Delhi in case of a
flight delay.
- Choosing the cheapest package without checking inclusions.
Low-quoted prices often exclude Gunji accommodation upgrades, meals, or
ILP coordination.
- Not booking train tickets early. Kathgodam Shatabdi fills 60 days
out in peak season. Late bookings mean tatkal prices — often 3x
more.
- Forgetting ID photocopies. There are 4–6 checkposts. Each
requires copies of your ILP and ID. Carry at least 6 copies of
everything.
- Skipping the doctor's consultation. If you have BP, diabetes, or
any cardiac condition, altitude at 4,745 m is a genuine risk. A
clearance letter mentioning high altitude is mandatory.
Pro Tips for Adi Kailash Yatra 2026
- Book your Surat–Delhi flight and Kathgodam train together, and
check our current combined-fare options before booking
separately.
- Carry a BSNL or Airtel SIM once you reach Uttarakhand. Jio has no
signal beyond Dharchula. BSNL is most reliable up to Gunji.
- Reach Dharchula a day before your yatra starts. ILP collection
takes a few hours — don't start Day 1 already rushed.
- Carry a small padlock. Basic guesthouses do not always have
secure storage.
- Sunrise Darshan at Jolingkong is best. The peak turns golden at
dawn; cloud cover is lowest in the early morning.
- Cash only beyond Dharchula. No UPI, no cards, no digital payments
on the route.
- Check your SpO2 daily above 3,500 m if you have a pulse oximeter.
Below 85%: rest. Below 80%: descend immediately.
