You'll be received at Indore airport or railway station by a Pilgrimage Tour representative and transferred directly to Ujjain - one of India's seven sacred cities (Sapta Puris) and the venue of Kumbh Mela once every 12 years. Ujjain sits along the banks of the sacred Kshipra River and carries centuries of spiritual history.
After hotel check-in and freshen-up, your first stop is the iconic Mahakaleshwar Temple - the only Jyotirlinga where the Shiva linga faces south (Dakshinamukhi). According to mythology, Lord Shiva manifested here as Mahakaal to destroy the demon Dooshan and protect his devotees. The island's shape is considered a divine phenomenon.
As per legend, Lord Shiva was so pleased by the penance of King Mandhata here that he split his lingam into two parts - one residing at Omkareshwar and the other at Mamleshwar, located directly across the Narmada. Both shrines can be visited during your stay on the island.
Travel Note: The Day 2 schedule is demanding. To attend Bhasma Aarti (4 AM), you must reach Gate 4 of Mahakaleshwar Temple by 3:00 AM - plan accordingly. After aarti, depart for Omkareshwar no later than 6:30-7:00 AM. The drive takes 3.5-4 hours (140 km). This allows 2-3 hours for darshan and a comfortable return to Indore by evening.
After puja and darshan, return to Indore for dinner and overnight stay.
