You can find the Jagannath temple less crowded in the months from August to October, and also in February to early March. You can also find less pilgrim traffic on weekdays. If you want to avoid crowds, then avoid going on weekends and festivals.
The temple is open every day for the Darshan. It’s only closed for a certain period of time during the year, that is, 15 days after the Snana Yatra. This period just before Rath Yatra is believed to be the time when deities are considered ill and therefore the temple gates are closed to pilgrims.
Puri is located about 60 km from the city of Bhubaneswar. You can easily cover this distance by road in less than 2 hours.
The best time to visit the city of Bhubaneswar is during the winter months of October to March. You’ll find the weather to be really pleasant, making it conducive to sightseeing and covering temple tours.
The entry ticket to visit the Konark Sun Temple is INR 40 per person. You’ll be given free entry if you are under 15 years of age. The ticket price is INR 600 if you’re a foreign tourist.
