Itinerary Details

Day 01 Chennai - Mahabalipuram - Pondicherry (150 Kms / 3-4 Hrs)

Start your journey with a warm welcome at Chennai Airport or Railway Station. A team member from Pilgrimagetour will meet you and take you to Mahabalipuram for sightseeing. If you book a guide, he will come with the driver and help you the whole day.

You'll visit the famous places in Mahabalipuram such as-

  • Krishna Mandapam
  • Arjuna's Penance- The statues were all handmade, without using modern machines. Don't forget to see the little cat in a yoga pose - everyone loves clicking pictures with it!
  • Cave Temples
  • Pancha Rathas- These five temples - Dharmaraja, Bhima, Arjuna, Nakula-Sahadeva, and Draupadi Ratha were made from a single big rock. Imagine how skilled the artists were.

After completing the sightseeing, you will drive to Pondicherry. On arrival, check in to your hotel and relax for the night.

Note- Pancha Rathas timings are 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Day 02 Pondicherry - Chidambaram - Kumbakonam (190 Kms/ 4-5 hrs)

  • After breakfast, check out from the hotel and visit Auroville Matrimandir - a calm and peaceful place for silent meditation. Sit quietly for a while and feel the peace. Many visitors come here to relax.
  • Next, visit the Sri Aurobindo Ashram.
  • Now, move towards the Arulmigu Manakula Vinayagar Temple - it's nearly 500 years old and among the oldest temple in Pondicherry.
  • Then, proceed to museum Puducherry Museum, full of ancient art and rare historical items - even those who don't like history will really enjoy it.
  • Later, drive to Chidambaram - a beautiful town famous for the Thillai Nataraja Temple, spread across 40 acres and dedicated to Lord Shiva.
  • After that, continue to Gangaikonda Cholapuram, where you'll see the beautiful Brihadeeswarar Temple, which was built without using cement and still stands strong today.
  • Later, drive to Kumbakonam. On arrival, check in to the hotel.
  • Overnight stay at Kumbakonam.

Note- Puducherry Museum is closed on Monday and national holidays.

Day 03 Kumbakonam - Thanjavur - Rameshwaram (Approx. 430 km/ 7-8 Hrs)

  • After breakfast, check out of the hotel and explore Kumbakonam. Stop at Adi Kumbeswarar Temple. According to Wikipedia information, the Shiva Lingam was made by Lord Shiva himself. Next, visit the holy Mahamaham Tank and Airavatesvara Temple.
  • Later, drive to Thanjavur. On arrival, visit Brihadeeswara Temple - it was built in 1010 CE and still stands strong even after facing tsunamis and earthquakes.
  • Then, go to Thanjavur Palace, where the Maratha kings once lived. The area around the palace is stunning (a great spot to take photos).
  • Then visit the Thanjavur Art Gallery to see its beautiful collections.
  • After sightseeing, go to Rameshwaram. It is believed that Lord Rama built a sea bridge here to save Sita from Ravana.
  • On arrival, check in to the hotel and rest for the night in Rameshwaram.

Day 04 In Rameswaram

  • Early morning, around 5:00 am, take a spiritual bath at Agni Theertham.
  • Then, take blessings at the Sphatik Lingam, also called Mani Darshan. This special Lingam is made of natural crystal and looks beautiful (not man-made).
  • Then, bathe in the 22 sacred wells inside the Ramanathaswamy Temple, known as Theerth Snanam.
  • Once you finish the holy bath and Darshan, return to the hotel to have breakfast.
  • Later, visit Rameshwaram's famous places like the Five-Faced Hanuman Temple, Ramar Patham, Kothandaramaswamy Temple, and Gandamadana Parvatham (popular for Lord Rama's footprint). Also explore Rama Setu, Dr. Abdul Kalam's House, and Dhanushkodi.
  • Overnight stay at Rameswaram.

Day 05 Rameswaram - Kanyakumari (312 km/ 7 Hrs)

  • In the morning, visit the Ramanathaswamy Temple again or take a holy dip in the sea, known as Samudra Snanam. After that, check out from the hotel and proceed to Kanyakumari, where the Bay of Bengal, Arabian Sea, and the Indian Ocean meet.
  • Kanyakumari is the only place where you can see both the sunrise and sunset over the sea.
  • After reaching, check into the hotel and relax for the rest of the day.
  • Enjoy a comfortable night stay in Kanyakumari.

Day 06 Kanyakumari - Madurai (243 Kms/4-5hrs)

  • In the morning, after breakfast, visit the Swami Vivekananda Rock Memorial. Meditating here feels very refreshing, as the memorial is surrounded by the sea from all sides (best photography spot). The sound of the sea waves and the peaceful atmosphere make it a perfect site to relax.
  • Visit the famous Kanyakumari Temple, believed to be the holy site where Goddess Sati's spine fell.
  • Continue your trip by visiting Tri Samudra Milan (meeting point of 3 oceans) and Gandhi Mandapam (where Gandhi's ashes were kept), and later see the Suchindram Temple.
  • After exploring the places, continue your journey to Madurai.
  • On arrival, check in to the hotel for an overnight stay in Madurai.

Note- Visitors are required to remove their shoes before entering the memorial and carry a pair of socks in case the floor is too hot.

Day 07 Madurai - Tiruchirappalli (140 km/ 3 hrs)

  • After breakfast, check out from the hotel and start your Madurai sightseeing tour. Visit the Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple, one of the oldest temple, built around 2,000 years ago.
  • After that, explore the Thiruparankundram Temple dedicated to Lord Murugan.
  • Then, travel to Tiruchirappalli.
  • On arrival at Tiruchirappalli, check in to the hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 08 Tiruchirappalli - Tiruvannamalai (223 Kms / 4 Hours Drive)

  • In morning after breakfast, check out from the hotel and start your sightseeing in Tiruchirappalli.
  • Begin your visit with the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple at Srirangam. It is located near the Kaveri River. This temple stands so tall that the whole town looks small in front of it! Its height is around 237 feet.
  • Next, visit Jambukeswarar Akilandeswari Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.
  • After that go to Ucchi Pillayar Temple, located on top of Rockfort Hill. The city view from there will truly surprise you - a perfect spot to take photos !
  • Next, see the Government Museum inside Rani Mangammal Mahal where you can find old paintings and historic items.
  • Now, visit the Butterfly Park, full of colorful butterflies. After that, stop at Nakshatra Vanam, a peaceful garden nearby - a great place to relax and enjoy a picnic.
  • After sightseeing proceed to Tiruvannamalai.
  • On arrival, check in to the hotel. Overnight stay at Tiruvannamalai.

Day 09 Tiruvannamalai - Kanchipuram (153 Kms/3-4 Hrs)

  • Morning after breakfast, check out from the hotel and visit the main temple. Tiruvannamalai is popular for the Annamalaiyar Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, worshiped here as Arunachalesvara or Annamalaiyar. The temple is one of the largest in India, spread over 23 acres located at the base of Annamalai Hills.
  • Later, drive towards Kanchipuram.
  • On arrival, check in to the hotel for an overnight stay in Kanchipuram.

Day 10 Kanchipuram - Chennai Departure (74 Kms/2 Hrs)

  • In the morning, after breakfast, check out from the hotel and travel to Kamakshi Amman Temple. As you enter, you feel good positive energy all around.
  • Visit Varadharaja Perumal Temple. It is one of the 108 sacred temple of Vishnu, known as the Divya Desams.
  • Then, move to Kailasanathar Temple, which is known for its unique architecture (the best place to click pictures).
  • Later, visit the Ekambareswarar Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is believed that Goddess Parvati meditated here under a sacred mango tree to win Lord Shiva's heart.
  • Then go to Kumarakottam Temple.
  • If you have some extra time, explore the local markets of Kanchipuram, known for their beautiful traditional Silk Sarees. Later, drive to Chennai.
