Chardham Yatra Package from Pune 2026

Tour Overview

For residents of Pune, this 10 Days / 9 Nights Chardham Yatra covers all four sacred shrines of Uttarakhand — Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. These four Dhams are among the most revered pilgrimage sites in Hinduism. Every Hindu considers completing this Yatra at least once in a lifetime a deeply fulfilling spiritual duty.

This package is designed so pilgrims from Pune can immerse themselves in the serene beauty of the Garhwal Himalayas without worrying about logistics. From hotel bookings and mountain transport to guide support and on-ground assistance — everything is handled. You return home with blessings, memories, and the peace that only a Himalayan pilgrimage gives you.

In 2026, the Kapat (temple doors) open from 19 April onwards. Most Pune pilgrims plan their trip between early May and mid-June, or in September-October. Booking at least 45 days in advance is strongly recommended for peak-season dates.

How to Reach Haridwar from Pune — Your Travel Options

Pune to Haridwar is roughly 1,900 km. The Yatra circuit starts from Haridwar, so getting there comfortably matters.

By Flight (Most Practical)

Fly from Pune Airport (PNQ) to Delhi IGI Airport (DEL) — roughly 2 hours. From Delhi, road transfer to Haridwar takes 4–5 hours (220 km on NH 334). IndiGo, Air India, and SpiceJet operate daily flights on this route. Book 45–60 days ahead for April–June dates.

By Train

Multiple trains connect Pune to Delhi (Rajdhani, Duronto — 16–18 hours), then Delhi to Haridwar by Shatabdi Express (3.5 hours). Some trains also connect Mumbai/Pune to Haridwar/Dehradun directly — check IRCTC for current schedules. Total journey: 22–28 hours. Good option for budget-conscious pilgrims.

By Road

Pune to Haridwar by road is 1,900+ km — takes 28–30 hours. Not recommended for pilgrimage travel. The physical fatigue before the Yatra even starts is counterproductive, especially for seniors.

Booking Tip:
Package price of ₹40,900 is for standard season. Peak May–June pricing is typically 15–20% higher. If you are a group of 6 or more from Pune, ask about group discounts. Booking early protects both the price and hotel availability on the mountain circuit.

Chardham Yatra Registration 2026 — Mandatory for All Pilgrims

Online registration is compulsory for every Chardham Yatra pilgrim. Checkpoint barriers at Sonprayag (Kedarnath) and other entry points physically stop pilgrims without a valid Yatra Pass QR code. This is not optional.

  1. Go to: registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in
  2. Register each traveler individually — every pilgrim needs their own pass
  3. Download and print the Yatra Pass, or save the QR code on your phone
  4. Registration is completely FREE — no agent should charge for basic registration
  5. Helpline: Toll-free 0135-1364 | WhatsApp 'YATRA' to +91-8394833833
  6. App: Download 'Tourist Care Uttarakhand' (iOS and Android) for route updates and emergency contacts

Warning — Scam Alert:
Fake websites and agents charge money for Yatra registration. The official Uttarakhand government registration is free. Similarly, Kedarnath helicopter bookings should only be done through IRCTC's official portal or government-authorized operators. Fraud reports in this space are rising every season.

Things to Know Before You Go

Dress Code at Temples

While there is no strict dress code, modest clothing is expected and respected.

Men: Dhoti or pyjamas with upper cloth

Women: Saree, half-saree with blouse, or churidar with dupatta

No Age Limit for Darshan

There is no age restriction for Darshan at any of the four Dhams. However, seniors above 60–65 years should carry a medical fitness certificate and inform the tour operator of any health conditions at the time of booking.

Instructions While Visiting Temples

  • Carry the printed copy of your Yatra registration receipt at all times
  • Carry original photo ID proof (Aadhaar is most widely accepted)
  • Mobile phones, cameras, and electronic gadgets are not allowed inside most temples
  • Darshan tickets and passes are non-transferable

What to Pack — Packing List for Chardham Yatra

Clothing

  • Heavy woollen jacket or down jacket — essential (temperatures drop to 5–8°C at Kedarnath/Badrinath even in May)
  • Thermal inner wear — top and bottom
  • Rain poncho or waterproof jacket (especially May–June)
  • Good quality trekking shoes with ankle support
  • 3–4 sets of comfortable cotton clothes for lower-altitude days
  • Gloves, wool cap, and muffler for high-altitude nights

Health & Safety

  • Personal medicines — carry at least 10-day supply
  • ORS sachets and basic first aid kit
  • Sunscreen SPF 50+ (Himalayan sun at altitude is intense)
  • Walking stick or trekking pole — especially for Yamunotri and Kedarnath treks
  • Consult your doctor about Diamox if you are prone to altitude sickness

Documents

  • Original government photo ID (Aadhaar is mandatory for most hotels and checkpoints)
  • Printed Yatra Registration Pass with QR code
  • Medical fitness certificate if above 60 years or with heart/respiratory conditions
  • Package booking confirmation

Special Guidance for Senior Citizens

A large number of Pune pilgrims are above 55 years. The Chardham Yatra is manageable for seniors with proper arrangements — but Kedarnath's 16 km trek and Yamunotri's 6 km trek need to be planned carefully.

  • Kedarnath helicopter services: Phata, Sersi, and Guptkashi helipads — book well in advance; May–June slots sell out fast
  • Pony and palki services at Janki Chatti (Yamunotri) and Gaurikund (Kedarnath) — comfortable and widely available
  • Acclimatize for at least one night in Haridwar before starting the high-altitude circuit
  • Carry ECG and blood pressure reports if you have any cardiac history — temple authorities at Kedarnath may check
  • Eat light at altitude. Avoid heavy meals, alcohol, and smoking. Stay hydrated with warm water
  • Inform your tour operator about health conditions at booking time — they can plan appropriate rest days

Common Mistakes Pune Pilgrims Make

MistakeWhat to Do Instead
Not registering for Yatra before leaving PuneRegister yourself at registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in — it's free, takes 10 minutes
Underestimating the Kedarnath trek (16 km)Start walking training 4–6 weeks before; or book helicopter/doli from Gaurikund in advance
Not packing warm clothes for JuneBadrinath at 3,133 m drops to 5–7°C at night even in June — always carry woolens
Booking Kedarnath helicopter from unverified agentsUse only IRCTC official portal or government-authorized operators — scam cases are common
Planning a too-tight schedule (less than 10 days)10 days is the minimum. Rushing at high altitude causes fatigue and altitude sickness
Arriving at Sonprayag late during peak seasonIn peak May–June weeks, reach Sonprayag by 6 AM — pilgrim cap means late arrivals get turned back

Practical Tips for a Smooth Chardham Yatra

  • Book your Pune–Delhi flights at least 45–60 days before travel. April–June fares spike significantly closer to departure.
  • The traditional sequence is Yamunotri → Gangotri → Kedarnath → Badrinath. Follow this — it's the prescribed order and makes geographic sense.
  • At Gangotri, bring a clean container to take Bhagirathi river water (Ganga jal) home — considered the purest prasad from this Dham.
  • At Kedarnath, the queue at the main temple can be 1–3 hours during May–June. Priority darshan arrangements through BKTC (Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee) can save significant time.
  • In Mana Village near Badrinath, the natural Saraswati River disappears underground just before Bheem Pul — one of the most fascinating geographical sights of the entire trip.
  • Keep ₹2,000–₹3,000 in cash (small notes) for on-route expenses. Ponies, dolis, prasad, tea, and small mountain dhabas often don't accept UPI.
  • Download 'Tourist Care Uttarakhand app before leaving Pune — real-time road status, registration help, and emergency contacts.

Tour Highlights

  • Visit all four revered Dhams — Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath
  • Experience the raw beauty of the Garhwal Himalayan ranges
  • Attend traditional rituals and pujas that have been followed for centuries
  • Comfortable travel and well-appointed accommodation throughout
  • Experienced guide assistance at every destination
  • Special care and pacing for senior citizens

Itinerary Details

Day 01 Pune to Delhi to Haridwar

Fly from Pune Airport (PNQ) to Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) — flight time is about 2 hours. IndiGo, Air India, and SpiceJet operate this route daily. Our representative meets you at Delhi airport and transfers you to Haridwar by road (approx. 220 km, 4–5 hours on NH 334).

Reach Haridwar by evening. Check into your pre-booked hotel and rest. If you arrive before sunset, attend the Ganga Aarti at Har-Ki-Pauri — one of the most memorable moments of the entire journey. Overnight stay in Haridwar.

Day 02 Haridwar to Barkot (via Dehradun & Mussoorie)

The Yatra officially begins. We leave Haridwar after breakfast and drive towards Barkot via Dehradun and Mussoorie — a scenic journey of about 235 km that takes 7–8 hours. On the way, stop at Kempty Falls near Mussoorie for a short refreshing break. The mountain scenery on this route — especially after Mussoorie — is spectacular.

Reach Barkot by evening and check into your hotel. Barkot is the base camp for Yamunotri. Overnight stay.

Day 03 Barkot to Yamunotri and Back

Early morning drive from Barkot to Janki Chatti (approx. 42 km, 1.5 hours). Janki Chatti is the road head for Yamunotri — no vehicles go further from here. The 6 km trek to Yamunotri Dham starts at Janki Chatti. Pony and palki (doli) services are available here for those who prefer not to walk.

At Yamunotri, seek blessings at the temple dedicated to Goddess Yamuna, the sacred source of the Yamuna river. The Surya Kund hot spring here reaches nearly 88°C — pilgrims traditionally tie rice in a muslin cloth, dip it in the spring, cook it naturally, and carry the prasad home. You can also offer prayers at Divya Shila, a sacred rock pillar, before entering the temple.

After darshan, descend back to Janki Chatti and return to Barkot for overnight stay.

  • Trek: 6 km one way from Janki Chatti | Altitude: 3,291 m
  • Pony/doli available at Janki Chatti (own cost)
  • Nearest viewpoint: Bandar Punch peaks visible on clear days from the trail

Day 04 Barkot to Uttarkashi

Drive from Barkot to Uttarkashi (approx. 85 km, 3–4 hours) along the Bhagirathi river valley. Uttarkashi is an important spiritual town often called the ‘Kashi of the Mountains’. Evening visit to the famous Vishwanath Temple here — one of the oldest Shiva shrines in Uttarakhand. Also worth exploring: Annapurna Devi Temple and Shakti Temple nearby. Overnight stay in Uttarkashi.

Day 05 Uttarkashi to Gangotri and Back

Early morning drive to Gangotri (approx. 100 km, 3–4 hours) via the Bhagirathi river gorge and the scenic Harsil valley — Harsil is famous for its apple orchards and glacier views. Gangotri sits at 3,048 m and is the origin of the holy Bhagirathi river (the Ganga’s main source).

No trek is needed — Gangotri temple is directly accessible by road. Seek blessings at the Gangotri Temple. Take a holy dip in the icy Bhagirathi. Pray at Bhagirath Shila — the rock where King Bhagirath meditated to bring Ganga to earth. Visit the Bhairon Ghati and Lanka bridge viewpoints on the way back.

Note: Temple closes between 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM daily. Return to Uttarkashi for overnight stay.

Day 06 Uttarkashi to Guptkashi

Long but scenic drive day — Uttarkashi to Guptkashi is about 185 km and takes 6–7 hours through Garhwal hill roads. Guptkashi is the base camp for Kedarnath. Check in early, have dinner, and rest — tomorrow is the most physically demanding day of the entire Yatra. An early night here makes a real difference.

Day 07 Trek to Kedarnath and Back to Guptkashi

Start very early. Drive to Sonprayag (approx. 30 km from Guptkashi). At Sonprayag, your Yatra registration QR code is checked at the barrier checkpoint — entry is not permitted without a valid yatra permit. From Sonprayag, shared jeeps take pilgrims to Gaurikund (5 km). The 16 km trek to Kedarnath begins from Gaurikund.

The Kedarnath trek is the most challenging part of this Yatra — steep, high altitude (temple at 3,553 m), and long. Pony, doli, and helicopter services are available from Gaurikund and from helipads at Phata, Sersi, and Guptkashi. Plan to reach the temple for darshan by midday, then return the same day to Guptkashi. Overnight at Guptkashi.

  • Trek: 16 km one way from Gaurikund | Altitude at temple: 3,553 m
  • Helicopter options: Phata / Sersi / Guptkashi helipads — book separately in advance
  • Carry personal medicines, heavy woollens, and a walking stick
  • Kedarnath is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas — one of the most sacred Shiva shrines in India

Day 08 Guptkashi to Badrinath (via Joshimath)

Drive from Guptkashi to Badrinath (approx. 190 km, 6–7 hours). En route, stop at Joshimath to visit the Narasimha Temple — dedicated to the man-lion avatar of Lord Vishnu. The temple's idol is ancient and deeply revered. Also stop at the Panch Prayag viewpoints — Nandprayag, Karnaprayag, and Vishnuprayag — where mountain rivers confluence en route.

Reach Badrinath by afternoon. Check into hotel, freshen up, then attend evening darshan at Badrinath Temple — one of the 108 Divya Desams of Lord Vishnu. Don't miss the Maha Abhishekam Aarti in the evening. Overnight at Badrinath.

Day 09 Badrinath to Rudraprayag (with Mana Village)

Start the morning with a dip at Tapt Kund — the hot spring right beside Badrinath temple, believed to have healing properties. Before leaving, visit Mana Village (3 km from Badrinath), the last Indian village before the Tibet border.

In Mana, see Vyas Gufa — the cave where sage Vyasa is said to have dictated the Mahabharata to Ganesha. Just outside is Ganesh Gufa (Ganesha's writing cave). Walk to Bheem Pul, a natural rock bridge over the roaring Saraswati river. On a clear day, the surrounding Himalayan peaks — including the Neelkanth peak above Badrinath — are breathtaking.

Drive to Rudraprayag (approx. 160 km, 5–6 hours). Overnight stay at Rudraprayag — the sacred meeting point of the Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers. Optional stop: Devprayag, where the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers meet to form the Ganga.

Day 10 Rudraprayag to Delhi to Pune

Early morning departure from Rudraprayag. Drive to Delhi (approx. 270 km, 5–8 hours). Our representative ensures a smooth transfer to Delhi Airport (IGI) or Railway Station for your return to Pune. The Yatra circuit is complete.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the cost of Chardham Yatra package from Pune in 2026?

The package starts at ₹40,900 per person for 10 days / 9 nights on double sharing with daily breakfast. This excludes Pune–Delhi round-trip flights (₹7,000–₹16,000 approx.), pony/doli/helicopter charges at temples, and entrance fees. Total trip budget per person typically ranges from ₹55,000–₹75,000 including flights.

How many days does the Chardham Yatra from Pune take?

The standard package is 10 days / 9 nights. Day 1 is travel from Pune to Haridwar; Day 10 is the return to Delhi for the flight to Pune. This is the minimum comfortable duration. Extending to 12 days gives useful buffer for weather delays, especially during monsoon shoulder season.

When does Chardham Yatra 2026 start and end?

The temples open in April 2026 — Yamunotri and Gangotri on 19 April, Kedarnath on 22 April, and Badrinath on 23 April. Closing dates are tentative: Yamunotri (11 Nov), Gangotri (10 Nov), Kedarnath (10 Nov), Badrinath (13 Nov). Most Pune pilgrims plan trips between May–June or September–October.

Is Chardham Yatra registration mandatory?

Yes, compulsory for every pilgrim. Register at registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in before leaving Pune. It's completely free. Checkpoint barriers at Sonprayag and other locations physically stop pilgrims without a valid Yatra Pass QR code.

How do I travel from Pune to Haridwar for Chardham Yatra?

The most practical option is flying from Pune Airport (PNQ) to Delhi IGI Airport (DEL) — 2 hours. From Delhi, road transfer to Haridwar takes 4–5 hours. Alternatively, trains from Pune to Delhi (Rajdhani/Duronto, 16–18 hrs) and then Shatabdi to Haridwar (3.5 hrs) is a budget option. Your tour operator typically arranges the Delhi–Haridwar road transfer.

Is the Chardham Yatra safe for senior citizens?

Yes, with proper planning. Both Yamunotri (6 km) and Kedarnath (16 km) have pony, palki, and helicopter alternatives so seniors don't need to trek. Consult your doctor before traveling, carry relevant medicines, and inform your tour operator about health conditions. The Yatra is manageable for most seniors in reasonable health.

What is the trek distance for Kedarnath?

The trek from Gaurikund to Kedarnath temple is 16 km one way. Altitude at the temple is 3,553 m. Pony, doli, and helicopter services are available from Gaurikund. For helicopter services, helipads at Phata, Sersi, and Guptkashi operate this route — book well in advance for May–June dates.

Where does the Yamunotri trek start — Hanuman Chatti or Janki Chatti?

The trek starts from Janki Chatti — not Hanuman Chatti. Janki Chatti is the current road head where vehicles stop. The 6 km trek to Yamunotri begins here. Pony and palki services are available at Janki Chatti.

Is Kedarnath ropeway operational in 2026?

No. The Kedarnath ropeway project is still under development and is not operational for public use in 2026. Available options remain: trekking (16 km from Gaurikund), pony/doli hire, or helicopter from designated helipads.

What is the best time for Chardham Yatra from Pune in 2026?

Two windows work best: (1) Late April to 15 May — temples freshly open, less crowded, weather clear; (2) September–October — post-monsoon, crystal clear skies, moderate crowds. Avoid July–August if possible due to heavy rains and landslide risk on mountain roads.

What clothes should I carry for Chardham Yatra from Pune?

Even in May–June, temperatures at Kedarnath and Badrinath drop to 5–8°C at night. Pack a heavy woollen/down jacket, thermal inner wear, rain poncho, and good trekking shoes with ankle support. Cotton clothes for lower-altitude days (Haridwar, Uttarkashi) and warm accessories like gloves, cap, and muffler are essential.

Can I book the Chardham Yatra package from Pune for a family?

Yes. This package can be customized for families, including senior citizens and children. Let your tour operator know about any special requirements — rest days, helicopter options for seniors, or child-friendly hotel preferences — at the time of booking.

What documents are required for Chardham Yatra 2026?

Original government photo ID (Aadhaar most widely accepted), printed Yatra Registration Pass with QR code, booking confirmation from your tour operator. If above 60 years or with any cardiac/respiratory condition, also carry a recent medical fitness certificate.

Are all meals included in the Chardham package?

The standard package includes daily breakfast. Lunch and dinner are not included — you have the flexibility to eat at local dhabas and restaurants on the circuit, which is also part of the Yatra experience. Uttarkashi and Guptkashi in particular have good vegetarian food options. A deluxe variant with all meals included is available on request.

What is the difference between Chardham Yatra and Char Dham Yatra?

Both terms refer to the same pilgrimage. 'Chardham Yatra' refers to the four sacred shrines in Uttarakhand — Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath — also called Chota Char Dham. This is distinct from the 'India Char Dham' (Badrinath, Dwarka, Puri, Rameshwaram) which is a pan-India pilgrimage circuit.
