The Ajanta caves are closed on Mondays, while the Ellora Caves are off limits to the public on Tuesdays.
For a thorough exploration of the Ajanta Caves, you’ll need about 4–5 hours. And to thoroughly see the Ellora Caves, it takes about 3–4 hours. In these time spans, you can easily cover all the major and important caves.
The best time to come down and explore the Ajanta & Ellora Caves is in the period of October to March. The weather in this window is quite pleasant and makes for a comfortable sightseeing tour.
Yes, you can engage in photography inside the caves. However, you cannot use the flash feature. And if you wish to make videos inside the cave, then you’ll need a special permit to do so.
