Shree Somnath Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is traditionally revered as the first of the 12 Jyotirlingas, and many devotees wish to visit it at least once in their lifetime. Our Somnath sightseeing tour covers the temple and the sacred places around it in one full day by private car.
The temple stands on the Arabian Sea coast at Prabhas Patan, a coastal town next to Veraval in Gujarat's Gir Somnath district. Its story is one of resilience: it was attacked and rebuilt several times over the centuries, starting with Mahmud of Ghazni's raid in 1026. Temple tradition says the first shrine here was built by the Moon God, Soma.
The present temple was rebuilt after Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel visited the ruins in 1947, and its pran-pratishtha was performed on 11 May 1951. While there is no rigid dress code for this temple, it is recommended to dress modestly. Sarees, dhotis, trousers and T-shirts are fine, but mini skirts and revealing clothes are not permitted.
No age limit restrictions. Wheelchairs and golf carts are available at the main gate for senior citizens and differently abled visitors, and there is a lift inside the temple premises.

October to March is the most comfortable time for Somnath sightseeing. April is warm, so keep temple visits for the morning and evening. Shravan month, Mahashivratri and the Kartik Purnima fair draw very large crowds, so book your cab early for these dates.

Ans: The Jay Somnath show usually starts at 7:45 PM and runs for about an hour. It is not held during the monsoon or on rainy evenings.

Ans: Bhalka Tirth is about 5 km from Somnath Temple, on the Prabhas-Veraval highway.
Ans: Somnath railway station is about 0.5 km from the temple, and Veraval Junction is about 7 km away. The nearest airport is Diu, about 85 to 95 km away by road.
Ans: Yes. The drives between places are short, and the temple provides wheelchairs, golf carts and a lift for elderly visitors.
