Kalratri is the one who kills all type of evil, ignorance and she removes darkness. This part of Maa Durga reflects that there is one more side of all of us that is darkness. Kalratri is the violent form of mother who removes all dirt from their children’s heart and life.

The complexion of Maa Kalratri who is also known as Maa Kali is dark like night. She has three eyes and four hands. The left hands of Maa Kali holds thorn like weapon and a dragger made of iron. The right hands of Maa Kali are in blessing and protecting position. She looks very dangerous as flames originate from her breathe and her eyes are always red and tongue is always open which is also in red color which is a color of blood. She rides on a donkey which is also known as “Gadarbh”.

In the form of Maa Kalratri, Maa Durga killed a Rakshas named Raktabeej. Raktabeej had a very special power that he multiplies with each drop of blood that fell on the ground. So, Maa Durga took the form of Maa Kali and when she noticed that he is multiplying with his each blood drop. She started licking the each drop before it could reach the ground. By this strategy Maa Kali defeated the Rakshas and killed him.

The appearance of Maa Kali may look very dangerous but she is always give good fruits to her devotees. The devoters of Maa Kali should not worry about anything as Maa bless them with a fearless and fruitful life.
