She is portrayed as a very quiet and highly pious woman or Sanyasini, who loves simplicity. It is said that Goddess Parvati was a great Tapasvini and to get Lord Shiva as her husband she performed many penance and she performed very difficult austerity as well. Mata Brahmacharini spent almost 1000 years like this performing such difficult penance. In those 1000 years, she lived an extremely simple life and she survived on flowers, fruits and leafy vegetables and she even slept on floor. When Lord Shiva saw all this, he agreed to marry her.
