In the afternoon, the temple remains closed between 12:30 PM to 4:00 PM. At around 4:00 PM the temple reopens offering a serene backdrop for prayers and spiritual reflection. Sometimes the timings of the temple may vary at the time of festivals and special\u00a0events. So you\u2019re advised to check the temple\u2019s official website for the updates.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Pooja_Timings\"><\/span><strong>Pooja Timings<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Let\u2019s take a look at the details of different rituals and poojas that are conducted at Madurai Meenakshi Temple<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The daily ritual at the temple includes pooja\u00a0that is conducted eight times\u00a0a day. Each Pooja comprises the deities Abhishekam,\u00a0Alangaram\u00a0(beautiful decoration with costly ornaments), Deep Aradhana\u00a0(Aarti that is held with lamps) and <strong>Naivedyam <\/strong>(offering of food).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Thiruvanandal Pooja<\/strong>\u2013 Thiruvanandal is the day\u2019s first Pooja that starts at\u00a0around 5 AM. As per the rituals the deities are bathed and then dressed up beautifully in ornaments. During this time the morning Aarti is performed.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Kalasandhi Pooja and Vizha Pooja<\/strong>\u2013 These Poojas comprising of Aarti and Abhishekam is held on a daily basis between\u00a06:30 AM\u00a0to\u00a07:15 AM.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Uchikala Pooja and Thrikalasandhi Pooja\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 These Poojas start at\u00a0around 10:30 AM and end at\u00a011:15 AM.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Maalai Pooja\u00a0<\/strong>(Evening Aarti) \u2013 You can observe this ritual between\u00a04:30 PM till\u00a05:15 PM.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ardhajama Pooja<\/strong>\u2013 Ardhajama is basically night Aarti that is held at\u00a0around 7:30 PM\u00a0and the Naivedyam continues till\u00a08:15 PM.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Palliarai Pooja<\/strong>\u2013 This is the day\u2019s last Pooja that begins at\u00a0around 9:15 PM. This is a special Pooja where Lord Shiva is taken around to Goddess Meenakshi\u2019s sanctum in a palanquin and for the day both are put to rest.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Annadanam<\/strong>\u2013 The authorities of Madurai Meenakshi Temple allow Annadanam to be conducted on devotees special request at Four Thousand\u00a0rupees per two hundred persons.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Festivals_Celebrated_at_the_Temple\"><\/span><strong>Festivals Celebrated at the Temple<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Let\u2019s take a look at the festivals that are celebrated at Madurai Meenakshi Temple.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Arulmigu Thirukalyanam <\/strong><strong>or <\/strong><strong>Chithirai Brahmotsavam \u2013 <\/strong>This festival marks the wedding between Goddess Meenakshi and Lord Sundareshwara. It is celebrated in the month of\u00a0<strong>Chitthirai\u00a0<\/strong>(April) for a <strong>12 days<\/strong><strong> period<\/strong>. The festival starts with the hoisting of the flag on the\u00a0Dhvajastambha. The flag hoisting is\u00a0as an invitation to all the Goddesses and Gods to attend the celebrations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Navarathri \u2013\u00a0<\/strong>Navarathri is one of the grandest festivals dedicated to Goddess Amman. This festival is celebrated for ten days in a grand manner. On all nine days, <strong>Amman deity\u2019s idol<\/strong>\u00a0is decorated in a different manner and thousands of pilgrims seek her blessings. <strong>Laksharchana<\/strong>\u00a0and <strong>Kalpa Pooja<\/strong>\u00a0are performed every day for the Goddess.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Aavani festival<\/strong> <strong>\u2013\u00a0<\/strong>This is one of the most important festivals celebrated during the month of\u00a0Aavani\u00a0(August) for\u00a018 days. This festival marks the coronation of Lord Sundareshwara as Madurai\u2019s king. The festival\u2019s first six days are dedicated to\u00a0Lord Chandrashekhar. On the seventh day coronation takes place. The ritual of Thiruvathavur Manickavasagar Perumal\u00a0and Thiruparankundram Subramanya bidding farewell is held on the ninth day.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Teppotsavam \u2013\u00a0<\/strong>This festival\u00a0is held during the Tamil month of \u201cThai\u201d which usually happens in January. In a grand procession the idols of Lord Sundareshwara and Goddess Meenakshi are taken around in\u00a0<strong>Vandiyur Mariamman<\/strong><strong> Teppakulam<\/strong><strong>\u2019s waters<\/strong>.
