According to historical accounts, the mosque was constructed in 1528-29 CE by Mir Baqi (also known as Baqi Tashqandi), a commander of the Mughal emperor Babur. In the 1980s, the movement gained national momentum as the VHP rallied for the reclamation of the Janmabhoomi. The rallying cry of &#8216;Jai Shree Ram&#8217; echoed across the country, with devotees contributing funds and inscribed bricks for the planned temple.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Demolition_of_the_Babri_Mosque_1992\"><\/span><b>The Demolition of the Babri Mosque (1992)<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On 6 December 1992, a large gathering of kar sevaks (volunteers) organised by the VHP and the BJP converged at the disputed site in Ayodhya. The situation escalated, leading to the violent demolition of the Babri Mosque \u2014 sparking inter-communal riots and tensions between India&#8217;s Hindu and Muslim communities, with repercussions in Pakistan and Bangladesh. The court directed the allocation of 5 acres at Dhannipur village (22 km from Ayodhya city) for construction of a mosque \u2014 overturning the Allahabad HC&#8217;s three-way division and entrusting the entire site exclusively to Hindus. Trust General Secretary: Champat Rai.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Bhoomi_Poojan_and_Construction\"><\/span><b>Bhoomi Poojan and Construction<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The official construction of the Ram temple commenced with the Bhoomi Poojan (ground-breaking ceremony) on 5 August 2020, performed by PM Narendra Modi. The ceremony included Vedic rituals, culminating in the installation of a 40 kg silver brick as the foundation stone. Construction faced temporary suspension during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown but persevered. By May 2023, 70% of groundwork and 40% of roof work had been completed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In January 2023, two Shaligram rocks (60 million years old, weighing 26 and 14 tonnes) arrived from Nepal&#8217;s Gandaki River. PM Narendra Modi served as Mukhya Yajaman (chief patron of rituals). Approximately 7,000 guests attended \u2014 including Bollywood celebrities, athletes, business leaders, and spiritual heads. Pre-consecration rituals ran from 16 January to 22 January 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2605 Post-Consecration Milestone \u2014 Surya Tilaka (April 2024): On Ram Navami (17 April 2024), sunrays illuminated the forehead of the Ram Lalla idol at precisely noon.
