Nashik Trimbakeshwar Simhastha Kumbh 2027

The Nashik Trimbakeshwar Simhastha Kumbh 2027 is the Kumbh Mela held on the Godavari once every 12 years, at Ramkund in Nashik and Kushavarta Kund in Trimbakeshwar, Maharashtra. It opens with Dhwajarohan (flag hoisting) on 31 October 2026. The first two Amrit Snans fall on 2 August and 31 August 2027 at both places. The final one is split: 11 September 2027 in Nashik, 12 September in Trimbakeshwar.

Most planning problems come from three things: the wrong date, a room too far from the ghat, and the 28 km road between Nashik and Trimbakeshwar on a crowded day. This guide deals with each one. The last section explains how PilgriamgeTour can plan the trip for you.

Quick answer: The Nashik Trimbakeshwar Simhastha Kumbh runs from 31 October 2026 to 24 July 2028, as per the schedule the Maharashtra government announced in June 2025. Amrit Snan dates: 2 August 2027 and 31 August 2027 (both places), 11 September 2027 (Nashik) and 12 September 2027 (Trimbakeshwar). Nashik city and Trimbakeshwar are about 28 km apart by road.

Nashik Trimbakeshwar Simhastha Kumbh

What is the Nashik Trimbakeshwar Simhastha Kumbh?

Kumbh Mela rotates between Prayagraj, Haridwar, Ujjain and Nashik-Trimbakeshwar. Nashik’s edition is called Simhastha because it is held when Jupiter (Guru) is in Simha rashi, or Leo. Ujjain’s Kumbh has the same name for the same reason.

Two towns host this Kumbh at once. By tradition, Vaishnava akharas take their Amrit Snan at Ramkund in Nashik and Shaiva akharas at Kushavarta Kund in Trimbakeshwar. Historical accounts trace this split to a late 18th century dispute between the two groups, after which the Peshwa administration moved the Vaishnava akharas to Nashik.

Trimbakeshwar sits at the foot of the Brahmagiri hills, at roughly 3,000 ft above sea level, according to Nashik Zilla Parishad. The Godavari originates in these hills. Kushavarta Kund, in the middle of Trimbak town, is regarded by devotees as the sacred source point of the river, and Trimbakeshwar temple is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas. Ramkund, on the Godavari in Panchavati, is linked by tradition with Lord Rama’s stay at Panchavati.

Nashik Trimbakeshwar Simhastha Kumbh 2027 dates and Amrit Snan schedule

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced the schedule on 1 June 2025 after meeting sadhus, akhara representatives and officials.

The calendar also has many smaller parva snan days across 2027 and 2028. Lists of these vary between websites, so take them only from the official Kumbh calendar.

Crowds peak on Amrit Snan days and the days around them. A visit in October 2027 or early 2028 is far calmer than the first week of August 2027.

Latest updates on preparations (as of October 2026)

  • The Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela Authority (NTKMA) is the nodal agency for the Simhastha. Its mandate covers infrastructure, sanitation, security, transport, digital services and pilgrim facilitation. The Nashik Divisional Commissioner chairs it.
  • The Kumbh Mela Apex Committee approved a development plan worth over ₹22,000 crore in March 2026, covering roads, transport, sanitation and other services.
  • In September 2026 the state approved a further ₹1,800 crore for roads, ghats, sanitation, traffic management, drinking water and devotee safety.
  • Indian Railways has planned works worth over ₹1,011 crore at five stations, along with long-distance specials, MEMU services and a Jyotirlinga circuit train linking Trimbakeshwar, Grishneshwar and Omkareshwar.
  • A Sadhugram of about 1,200 acres is being developed at Tapovan, Nashik, for the Vaishnava akharas.
  • NTKMA has issued a framework that lets private operators set up tent cities for pilgrims.

Akharas and Sadhugram

The akharas are the orders of sadhus who lead the Amrit Snan processions. On the main snan days they receive designated bathing slots. Public access to the ghats and its timings will depend on the crowd-management plan the administration issues for each date.

Vaishnava akharas camp at Sadhugram in Tapovan, Nashik. On non-snan days, pilgrims can visit the camps for darshan of the sadhus, pravachans and bhandaras. Shaiva akharas, including Naga sadhus, camp around Trimbakeshwar.

Ramkund vs Kushavarta Kund: which one to plan for

Plan for both if your group’s health allows it. If you have to pick one, use this table.

Mumbai to Nashikabout 165 kmRoad distance varies by route

On a normal day, allow about an hour for the Nashik to Trimbakeshwar drive. On Simhastha peak days it can take much longer because of traffic controls.

By road

From Mumbai, the usual route runs via Kasara Ghat and Igatpuri. On peak days, expect traffic restrictions, designated parking areas and shuttle buses between the parking zones and the ghats. Follow the official plan for your date.

By train

Nashik Road, on the Mumbai–Bhusawal line, is the main station. Railways is upgrading it along with Devlali, Odha, Kherwadi and Kasbe Sukene. As of 1 October 2026, we could not find published numbers or timings for Kumbh special trains. Book regular trains the day the reservation window opens.

By air

Ozar airport has limited flights. Mumbai airport has far more, and from there you continue to Nashik by road or rail. Shirdi airport is an option if its flights suit you.

Where to stay during Nashik Kumbh 2027

Book your room before your train.

  • Hotels in Nashik city: Panchavati is closest to Ramkund. College Road, Gangapur Road and Mumbai Naka are a short drive away.
  • Dharamshalas and ashrams in Panchavati and Trimbakeshwar are basic. Contact them directly, and early.
  • Tent cities: before paying, ask the operator for proof that the camp is authorised under the NTKMA framework, and get the included facilities (toilets, water, electricity) in writing.
  • Igatpuri, Sinnar and Shirdi work as bases if you accept a longer commute.

For an Amrit Snan, our advice is to book one night before and one night after. Arriving on the morning of the snan is a gamble with road closures.

Best time to visit

  • Amrit Snan with the akharas: 2 August, 31 August and 11/12 September 2027. These are the most crowded days.
  • For seniors with limited mobility and families with small children, a non-peak day in October to December 2027 is the better choice.
  • Monsoon: IMD’s 1981 to 2010 normals for Nashik show 137.0 mm of rain in August over about 10 rainy days, and 131.5 mm in September over about 8. Ghat steps get slippery. Rain can also raise water levels and current, so bathe only where on-site staff allow it.

Budget planning

Plan your budget under these heads. The date you choose affects almost every one of them.

Senior citizen tips for Nashik Trimbakeshwar Simhastha Kumbh 2027

  • Pick a non-peak date unless the Amrit Snan itself matters to them.
  • Book a ground-floor or lift-access room near the ghat.
  • Arrange wheelchair help at the station and hotel in advance.
  • Carry prescriptions and a written list of medicines.
  • Keep one younger family member with each elderly person at all times.
  • Bathe at a marked, guarded section, and hold a railing or chain where one is provided.

Step-by-step: planning your Simhastha yatra

  1. Choose an Amrit Snan day or a quieter day, based on the oldest person in your group.
  2. Decide on Nashik, Trimbakeshwar or both. Covering both comfortably takes two days.
  3. Book a stay near your main ghat and check the actual walking distance on a map.
  4. Book trains or flights as soon as bookings open for your dates.
  5. Follow NTKMA and Nashik district updates for traffic plans and any pass or app.
  6. On snan morning, leave early and fix a meeting point for your group.
  7. For pujas at Trimbakeshwar, book a priest in advance and check the Kumbh-period darshan arrangements with the temple trust.

Practical tips for the snan day

  • Reach the ghat early. Crowds build through the morning on Amrit Snan days.
  • Keep phones in a waterproof pouch. Networks slow down badly in dense crowds, so agree on a meeting point before you separate.
  • Carry small notes. Card and UPI payments can fail when networks are jammed.
  • Change into dry clothes straight after the dip, especially in the monsoon months.
  • Follow police and volunteer instructions at barricades, even when the route looks longer.

Packing checklist

  • Photo ID for every member, with photocopies
  • A change of clothes in a waterproof bag, and a small towel
  • Umbrella or raincoat, and footwear with grip
  • Medicines, a small first-aid kit, prescriptions
  • Power bank and small cash notes
  • A bright common item, like a cap or dupatta, for your group
  • A card with name, hotel and a family phone number in each child’s and elderly person’s pocket

How to avoid Kumbh booking scams

Many websites use “Kumbh” or “official” in their names and are run by private parties. Before paying anyone:

  • Check information against the Maharashtra government, Nashik district administration or NTKMA.
  • Ignore any “e-pass” or “registration fee” site the administration has not announced.
  • Ask the hotel, camp or travel company for a GST number, a physical address and written confirmation.
  • Pay to a company bank account rather than a personal UPI ID.
  • Read the cancellation policy first.

Common mistakes

  • Planning Ramkund and Trimbakeshwar on the same Amrit Snan day.
  • Taking elderly parents into the main snan crowd without a plan for rest, water and medicines.
  • Booking a hotel “near Ramkund” without checking the walking distance.
  • Leaving travel bookings for the last month.

FAQs

When is the Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027?

The Nashik Trimbakeshwar Simhastha begins with Dhwajarohan on 31 October 2026 and ends with the flag lowering on 24 July 2028, as per the Maharashtra government’s June 2025 schedule. The busiest period is August to September 2027, when all three Amrit Snans take place.

What are the Amrit Snan dates for Nashik Kumbh 2027?

The first Amrit Snan is on 2 August 2027 and the second on 31 August 2027, at both Ramkund in Nashik and Kushavarta Kund in Trimbakeshwar. The third is on 11 September 2027 at Nashik and 12 September 2027 at Trimbakeshwar.

Why is the Nashik Kumbh called Simhastha?

It is held when Jupiter (Guru) is in Simha rashi, or Leo, in Hindu astrology. Ujjain’s Kumbh is also called Simhastha for this reason. The Nashik Simhastha returns every 12 years, and the previous one was held in 2015 at the same two places.

Where does the holy dip take place?

The main sites are Ramkund on the Godavari in Panchavati, Nashik, and Kushavarta Kund in Trimbakeshwar. Vaishnava akharas traditionally take their Amrit Snan at Nashik and Shaiva akharas at Trimbakeshwar. Other Godavari ghats in Nashik are also used by the public.

How far is Trimbakeshwar from Nashik?

About 28 km, according to Maharashtra Tourism and Nashik Zilla Parishad. Allow around an hour on a normal day. On Amrit Snan days, traffic controls can make the trip much longer, so do not plan both places on the same peak day.

How far is Kushavarta Kund from Trimbakeshwar temple? Maharashtra Tourism puts Kushavarta Kund about 400 m from the Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga temple, in the centre of Trimbak town. It is a short walk, so you do not need a vehicle between the two. On crowded days, take the route marked by police, even if it is longer.

Which railway station is nearest to Nashik Kumbh?

Nashik Road, about 11 km from Nashik city centre. Railways is upgrading it along with Devlali, Odha, Kherwadi and Kasbe Sukene, and plans long-distance specials and MEMU services. Train numbers and timings were not published as of 1 October 2026, so watch Indian Railways updates.

Which airport is nearest to Nashik Kumbh Mela?

Ozar (Nashik) airport, about 24 km from the city centre according to Maharashtra Tourism, has limited flights. Mumbai airport has far more connections. From Mumbai, Nashik is about 165 km by road, or you can take a train to Nashik Road.

Is Nashik Kumbh 2027 suitable for senior citizens?

Yes, with the right date. For seniors with limited mobility, a non-peak day is far easier than an Amrit Snan morning. Book a room near the ghat, carry medicines and keep a younger family member with them throughout. Bathe only at guarded sections.

Do I need registration or a pass for Nashik Kumbh 2027?

As of 1 October 2026, we could not find any official announcement of a pilgrim registration or e-pass system from NTKMA or the Nashik district administration. If one is introduced, it will come through those channels. Do not pay any website that claims to sell Kumbh passes.

How many people are expected at Nashik Kumbh 2027?

Official projections differ. In June 2025 the Chief Minister spoke of 15 to 20 crore devotees, while a July 2025 Railways briefing put anticipated footfall at over 3 crore. The figures come from different briefings and are not directly comparable. Expect very heavy crowds on Amrit Snan days.

What is Sadhugram in Nashik Kumbh?

Sadhugram is the camp where sadhus of the Vaishnava akharas stay during the Simhastha. For 2027, about 1,200 acres are being developed for it at Tapovan in Nashik, as reported by ThePrint in November 2025. Plan your visit for a non-snan day.

Where can I stay during the Kumbh?

Hotels in Nashik city, dharamshalas and ashrams in Panchavati and Trimbakeshwar, and private tent cities under the NTKMA framework. For August and September 2027, book as early as possible and check the walking distance to your ghat on a map before you pay.

Can I do a puja at Trimbakeshwar during the Kumbh?

Yes, but plan it for a non-snan date. Book the priest in advance, keep a buffer day in case crowds delay you, and confirm Kumbh-period darshan timings with the temple trust closer to your visit. Regular timings published before the Simhastha may not apply during peak weeks.
