Chota Chardham Yatra is a yatra to four holy pilgrimages located in small beautiful towns of Uttarakhand state in the northern part of India. These four temples are dedicated to four different Gods and Goddesses. This yatra consists of visiting the four holy temples namely Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri. The actual Chardham Yatra consists of four temples situated in East, West, North and South direction each. That is why tou to the ‘char dhams’ of Uttarakhand are called “Chota Chardham Yatra.
Chardham Yatra is considered as a must visit destination by Hindus. They believe that one must go for Chardham Yatra at least for once in his/her entire life. Chota Chardham yatra is done by pilgrims and devotees from all over India. People from all over the world come as well for the Chota Chardham Yatra.
The four dhams of this yatra are Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri.
Badrinath temple is located in a town of Chamoli district of Uttarakhand state. This temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is believed that Lord Vishnu had meditated here and his wife Lakshmi was protecting him from scorching sunlight and freezing cold breeze in a form of “Badri” tree.
Kedarnath temple is located in a small town of Rudraprayag district of the North Indian state of Uttarakhand. This holy shrine is dedicated to the supreme god Lord Shiva. It is said that when Lord Shiva was escaping so that Pandavas could not find him, he took a form of buffalo. But Pandavas anyhow finds Lord Shiva as they wanted to absolve themselves from the sins. He was impressed and allowed them to worship him there, where now stands the Kedarnath temple.
Gangotri temple is the origin of the holy River Ganga and is located in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. This temple is dedicated to Goddess Ganga. She took the form a river to wash off the sins of King Bhagiratha’s ancestors and predecessors.
Yamunotri temple is located on the banks of River Yamuna in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand state. This temple is dedicated to Goddess Yamuna. According to legends sage Asit Muni used to live here and used to go Gangotri for bathing daily. But when the sage turned old he could continue going to Gangotri for bath. Then a miracle happened and a stream of River Ganga appeared there, so that the elderly sage could continue with his bathing ritual.

This is the first day of your Chota Chardham Yatra. You need to assemble in Dehradun bus stand, from where you will be driving to Barkot via Mussoorie which will take over 7-8 hours to reach. After arriving at Barkot check in into hotels or guest house as you will be spending the night in Barkot.
Get up early in the morning as you will be leaving for your first destination Yamunotri. Take a ride to Janki Chatti which is 42 kms drive via Hanuman Chatti. After reaching Janki Chatti you will be trekking for 6 kms to reach Yamunotri. After doing Darshan in Yamunotri start trekking back to Janki Chatti. And from there take a ride back to Barkot. After reaching Barkot spend the night there again.
You will be leaving for Uttarkashi from Barkot which is a 82 km drive. It will take around 4 hours to reach Uttarkashi. Check in into hotel for night stay as you will be leaving for your next destination the next morning.
Get up early in the morning and take ride to Gangotri which is 100 km drive. After reaching your second destination Gangotri you must take dip in the holy river of Ganga. And after Darshan leave for Uttarkashi again. Take a ride back to Uttarkashi and after arriving there stay for the night in hotels.
Get up early as you will be driving a long way to Gupkashi. You will be driving for 228 kms which will take over 8-9 hours to reach there. After reaching Guptkashi check in into hotels or you can also enjoy camping. Spend the rest of the night there itself.
This day you will be heading towards your third destination Kedarnath. You will be taking a ride to Gaurikund from Gupkashi which is a 32 km drive. And after reaching at Gaurikund start trekking for 14 kms to reach Kedarnath. After Darsham and doing other rituals check in into a hotel or guest house for night stay.
After having breakfast, start trekking back to Gaurikund from Kedarnath. After arriving at Gaurikund take a ride back to Guptkashi which is again 32 km drive. Ck in into hotels in Guptkashi and spend the rest of the night there.
This is the day when you will be visiting your fourth and last destination of Chota Chardham Yatra. You will be driving to Kedarnath which is a 173 kms drive from Guptkashi. It will take about 7-8 hours to reach Badrinath. After Darshan and performing Pooja, you will be staying there for the night in hotels.
You will be leacing for Srinagar on this day. You will be driving to Srinagar which is a 156 km drive from Badrinath. And it will take around 7-8 hours to reach there. After arriving at Srinagar check in into hotel or a guest house for spending the night there.
This is the last day of your tour. You will be driving for 162 kms which will take you around 5 hours to reach Dehradun. After reaching Dehradun take a ride back to your home. And your Chota Chardham Yatra ends here.
