Nepalese are very kind and or of helping nature as well. Nepal has many temples and shrines from the ancient times that are visited by tourists from India and also from other countries. Nepal has many Hindu Temples and Buddhist temple also which makes it a popular tourist destination. The famous temples of Nepal are popular worldwide and even foreigners come and visit these temples.
There are many famous temples in Nepal that people know about. I will be telling you about the most popular ones.
01. Pashupatinath Temple
Pashupatinath temple is a popular Hindu temple. It is located in Kathmandu city of Nepal. This temple is dedicated to the mighty Lord Shiva. The Jyotirlinga present here is the head of the other Jyotirlingas situated in India. The other jyotirlingas are the body parts that are scattered all over India. This temple is situated on the banks of Bagmati River.
It is believed that Lord Shiva and Parvati were tired of the long journey so they stopped here to take rest. Lord Shiva and Parvati were so impressed with beauty of that place that they took the form of deer. They used to roam all around the jungle. But when other Gods started searching them and found them in the forest and they refused to return. And then he announced himself as Pashupati “God of animals”. This temple also has 10 holy taps under which people take bath as they consider it as a good deed.
02. Dakshinkali Temple
Dakshin kali temple is located 22 kms outside Kathmandu. This is a Hindu temple which is dedicated to Goddess Kali. People to impress goddess Kali sacrifices cocks and male goats. The sacrifices are done mainly on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Hence devotees come with cocks and goats on these weekdays for sacrificing them. The major festival that is celebrated here is Dashain festival. This festival is celebrated in the month of October. And the sacrificing of animals to impress Kali is done on a large scale during this time.
03. Boudhanath Stupa
Boudhanath Stupa is also located in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. This is a Buddhist temple which is dedicated to Lord Buddha. This stupa is one of the largest stupas in the world. It is also on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Tourists from India as well as other countries visit this place. According to a legend, Jadzima who was an apsara in her previous life was born in an ordinary family. She had four husbands and four sons, one from each husband. All four of her husband’s deeply respected their religion and decided to build the largest stupa of. It took them 7 years to complete this stupa.
04. Swayambhunath Stupa
Swayambhu Stupa is one of the famous temples of Nepal. This temple is also located in the Kathmandu village on the hilltop. The Tibetan name of this stupa means “sublime trees”. It is named so because of the large number of trees present on the hill. This is also a Buddhist temple. This is the most sacred Buddhist pilgrimage site as per Tibetans. This stupa consists of various temples and shrines dedicated to Lord Buddha. The monkeys here are considered holy because Manjushri growed his hair long. So the head lice also grew. It is believed that those head lice transformed into these monkeys.
